Austin Craft Crowd is not a one-woman show … sorry for seeming sexist here, but no dudes have volunteered..yet! Anyway, we digress….Those of us who have gotten this little shabang off the ground would like to introduce ourselves…
Meet:
I sew. Occasionally I raise children. But always I sew. In fact, it’s become a bedtime ritual for my children for me to ‘sew them to sleep’. They have grown to love the soothing sound of mom sitting at the sewing machine right outside their bedrooms. I’m thankful they love that noise and not the vacuum cleaner’s noise!
I have been sewing for 10 years. While I’ve taught myself many challenging skills, I still prefer projects that meet three criteria: FAST, EASY & CHEAP! With three kiddos, that’s the only combination that makes sense for my life so that’s what I make and that’s what I blog about at www.SoSewSomething.com.
I sew for me, my children, my home and the public via my Etsy shop: www.Parsimony.Etsy.com. And…as if I haven’t taken enough of your time, I teach sewing classes out of my home. Come on over!

My name is Catherine Garza and I have lived in Austin for 18 years. I am married to Devin and we have 4 great kids: Devin Ross is 20, Logan 16, Meagan 13, and Graceyn 9. I grew up in a very creative family and have had my hands in artsy craftsy stuff since I can remember. I am sad to say, I don’t sew much, but am not opposed to trying as long as it’s not too complicated! My favorite medium is paint and whatever will accept it. I love painting furniture, walls, rugs, ceilings, and in the past couple of years have been brave enough to try canvas. I also love collage and all of the various ways I can incorporate it into my art. I am an interior designer, but haven’t worked for a client besides myself since my third child was born. But I get great joy out of transforming spaces and am particularly obsessive about giving new life to cast off things, and using them to decorate. My garage is a testament to my curb crawling and dumpster diving problem! I absolutely love the concept of using the gifts God gave us to help others. I am blessed to be part of Austin Craft Crowd!

I have been married to the ultra dreamy Patrick Nixon for 14 years, and together have 4 awesome kids ranging in age from 4 to 19 years old. I am an accountant by day and crafty by night. I love learning new things and am always jumping to the next “favorite” project – ranging from graphic design to gardening to sewing.
I have the honor of being surrounded by creative people who teach me every day the importance of simply enjoying the process and the company of friends without getting frustrated if the results of my crafty efforts don’t look catalogue perfect.
I have two Etsy shops: Modern Macrame – which features my artistic/minimal plant hanger designs. And also NixonArts – which features all the random projects that I am into at any given time.

I am orignally from the Dallas area. I have lived in Austin for two years. I am married to Andrew, who is a student at UT and I have two active daughters, Stella, 4 and Hadley, 3…and a baby on the way in November. I love to sew, am an avid reader and NPR fan. Although I have only been sewing for two years now, I have loved arts and crafts my whole life and have had my hands in some kind of glue, clay or string since childhood. I am excited to be a part of Austin Craft Crowd. I look forward to serving the Austin community through crafting and am thankful for the opportunity.

I’m a wife, mommy, sci-fi geek, lover of color, great design, old books and some new, lenny kravitz and MOST things handmade. I seriously love to sew and am constantly inspired and in awe by the creativity amongst my friends and fellow austinites. I find great satisfaction from finishing a project that I can wear, hold, use, give away , or even just admire on my children or a friend. Life doesn’t always allow for tangible reward… But sewing/crafting does!!

I am the mom to two seriously sweet boys, Dakota and Ethan. I’ve moved around like a gypsy most of my life, but we landed in Austin 10 years ago and appear to be staying. I’ve worked as a hairstylist for more years than i will admit, work with international students & am currently creating Design Remix, an interior design and home organization business. I love to throw a tarp on the living room floor to paint and do collage, but my favorite creative endeavors are home spaces. I adore treasure hunting in antique stores, mixing the old with the new, up-cycling unused finds, and generally not follow any of the rules. I spend way more waking hours thinking about creating than I actually have time for. So I’m dreaming of a day, sitting in my fantasy art room where all the stuff I’ve dreamed up and of will come pouring out. It might be in Africa. You can join me.
